Every fitting we make is built to a number you give us. We hold over seven hundred standard shade sizes and make anything outside them to order, for hotels, museums, exhibitions, showrooms and homes.

A shade is defined by three numbers: top diameter, base diameter and height. Choose the profile closest to what you want, and we build it to your measurements, in your fabric.
Cone
Round · Oval · Half shade
Our most-requested profile. Straight-sided and forgiving. It suits almost any base and repeats well in a row.

Equal top and base. The contemporary workhorse, and the profile that scales furthest. Diffusers available to kill glare.

Made to hospitality standard.
Every frame is epoxy polyester powder-coated. Coastal installations get galvanised or stainless steel wire so they don't rust out in a season. Linings are fabric, or our heat-resistant PVC.
Bring your own fabric. We actively encourage it: if you have specified a textile for the room, the shades should match it.

A full professional design service, from initial concept and layout through to manufacture and delivery. International art exhibitions, museums, trade shows, hotels and private residences.
Custom manufacture
Light fittings and shades in a wide range of materials and finishes, for local and international projects. If it can be specified, it can usually be built.
Lighting surveys
Independent advice on energy management and conservation for an existing space, while keeping you compliant with all statutory regulations.
For interior designers
Our interior design department handles the design, supply and recovering of lampshades and lamps, including bringing tired pieces back into use in a new fabric.
Common questions
Before you ask.
Can you make a shade in a size that isn’t standard?
Yes. We hold over 700 standard sizes, and anything outside them is made to order. Shades run from 10 cm to 2 m in diameter, and from 8 cm to 8 m tall.
Can I supply my own fabric?
Yes, and we encourage it. If a textile has already been specified for the room, the shades should match it. We also work in parchment, natural grasses, leather, wood and metal.
Do you recover existing lampshades and lamps?
Yes. Our interior design department handles the design, supply and recovering of shades and lamps, which is usually the quickest way to bring an existing piece back into a scheme.
Do you make lighting for coastal projects?
Yes. Coastal work uses galvanised or stainless steel wire so the frames do not corrode. Every frame is epoxy polyester powder-coated as standard.
Do you work with interior designers and hotels?
Most of our work is exactly that. We specialise in hospitality and commercial projects, and have supplied hotels, restaurants, casinos, game lodges, museums and trade shows both locally and abroad.
Where are you based?
Our showroom and workshop are at 33 Meyer Street, Oaklands, Johannesburg. Visits are by appointment. We supply projects locally and internationally.
About us
Lamps & Lighting has been designing, manufacturing and supplying light fittings from the same Johannesburg workshop for more than three decades. Everything is made to order. You tell us the size, the shape and the fabric, and we build that.
